AT SCHOOL

The youth of today are the leaders of tomorrow. Let us help you inspire them.

Career Consciousness offers workshops especially designed for youth to help them discover their talents and interests, and to take concrete steps toward making their dreams a reality in the world of work. These workshops are highly interactive and involve individual and group exercises, as well as homework assignments that engage participants with adults outside of the workshop. At School Model

Based on Dr. Helen Richardson’s cutting edge “Find Your Wings” model (at right), workshop participants experience a holistic approach to self-discovery in which they:

  • Identify their individual strengths and purpose
  • Build solid relationship skills
  • Recognize the connection between personal development and professional achievements
  • View work as “life energy”

These four areas of learning and self-reflection help participants define what work can be for them. They emerge from these workshops with greater self-awareness, a broader view of what is possible, and the tools and inspiration to pursue those possibilities.

History

The “Find Your Wings” concept was a shared dream between Drs. Helen and Eugene Richardson. Helen had been working with adults on career development for years, while Eugene had been working with children as a teacher and a principal. Eventually, they realized that, with their collective experience and passions, they could create a youth program for career development. Thus, the “Find Your Wings” program was born.

Name

The “Find Your Wings” name was inspired by Dr. Eugene Richardson. Eugene is a Tuskegee Airman – one of the distinguished group of African-American pilots of World War II. Following his service, he devoted his career to education – to supporting and inspiring children in their journey to adulthood. Considering Eugene’s love of flying and his passion for children, there could be no better name for the career development program for youth than “Find Your Wings.
